I Sea

January 11, 2016

The sea is like a magnet. It naturally attracts so many of us and make us travel thousands of kilometers just to get close.

My endorphins go wild right at the moment I get out of the plane and feel the salty smell of the sea. It’s the power that pushes me again and again, to buy another plane ticket to somewhere warm and beautiful. No matter, if my financial priorities should be somewhere else.

I need to see and smell the big blue.

Going to the faraway exotic destination during the winter time is a great idea, for sure. But, I recently realized that paradise can sometimes be closer than one would think. The beautiful Italian island Sardinia is a frequented choice of travelers, during summer months, but it’s a totally different place in winter. Amazingly different, I can tell you.

Standing out of the crowd can often bring the unexpected advantages. Traveling to the popular tourist destination off season is one of them.
If you are like me and holiday is much more than lying down on the beach for you, this kind of trip is something for you. I happily sacrifice ten degrees to experience much more authenticity and fewer souvenir shops. Sunny eighteen degrees is just perfect for discovering wonderful places, without getting exhausted by the heat.

Walking by the sea on an empty shore is the therapy itself. Like at the Capo Caccia, where we drove, right after our arrival to the island. Yes, I’m yours, I said to the sea. It’s an instant energy charger for me, and a source of inspiration.Capp_Caccia_stairs

This kind of inspiration also led me to shoot these pictures in Alghero, where we spent the first night of our holiday.

When I saw the sea and the stone walls in front of our apartment, I got the idea of this outfit. Nothing is new about it.

Old lacing top with the long skirt I have also been wearing already more than a year. And the big earrings bought in Lebanon.

But for the first time, I put it all together as it seemed to complement the romantic surroundings.

Even the cloudy sky, that literally lasted only one hour of the the full sunny week, contributed well on the atmosphere I was trying to catch. Although, I looked a little like a Sicilian gypsy with the hair styling made by “hair from the bed & the wind”.

And it was only the beginning of our adventurous road trip through Sardinia.

I will guide you soon through snaky roads to beautiful beaches, green mountains, picturesque towns, friendly people and delicious food. So stay tuned and you will see that from time to time, you can gain the experience worth of all money without spending thousands. Promise.

Beautiful photos. I love the sea too & always try to spend as much time as I can by it. I agree though that travelling to the ocean (or anywhere really) always uncovers different & amazing things. It’s so different to experience places when they are empty.

Beautiful photos. Sardinia has interested me since my first plane trip when I was about 10 years old. We were flying to Tunisia, and my Mum pointed Sardinia out as we flew over it – I thought the name was so exotic and interesting sounding. I’m not one for warm weather, so I think I’d definitely enjoy a winter visit.
