OUTSIDER

May 10, 2016

When a friend gives you a gift, it often reflects his or her perception of your personality. (OK, sometimes also lack of their time to think about it, for a while) This way you realize, what your friends suppose you could appreciate or need. Sometimes such a reflection can be quite surprising, while other times very pleasing, or even undesirable.

Recently I got a gift from my friend and it was this T-shirt with a notice OUTSIDER. I was quite surprised first as nobody, since my childhood, have ever seen me in a loose cotton T-shirt. Even as a child I was not comfortable wearing them. I like it on others in some cases but, personally I have always been more an elegant type than a sporty girl. And maybe because the loose T-shirts were mandatory for physical education at school, I built an aversion to them. Even as I generally refuse any uniformity.

But my friend thought this T-shirt would suit me, as in her eyes I’m kind of an outsider, doing the things my own way, ignoring mainstream choices. She also thought that white oversized T-shirt is neutral enough for I can style it anyway I want.

At the end, the notice OUTSIDER really inspired me and helped me to overcome my old aversion.

About being an outsider, I have to admit, she got the point. I hate to be a part of any groups, where one is supposed to think, act and talk in a certain way. I love communities consisting of the great individuals, even nerds or freaks who fully respect and enjoy the personality and differences of the others. Without any effort to be like anybody else. At the end, the notice OUTSIDER really inspired me and helped me to overcome my old aversion. I took OUTSIDER as a challenge to pair the T-shirt with other pieces, which all together could create chic, effortlessly elegant, yet a bit rebellious look.

Mixing different styles is really key to the most interesting outfits. I wore this casual T-shirt with well-tailored elegant trousers, lace up heels and brightly colored jacket. To make trousers look more casual, I rolled them up. The important part of such outfit is a statement jewelry. I chose to combine three different necklaces. But I think they looked harmonious together, more like a one piece and gave the look a feeling of Vivienne Westwood’s style. The scarf is used as a belt, as I liked how its colors play well with the rest of the outfit. The result was, I felt to be one hundred percent me and, moreover, very fresh, a bit impertinent me.

The best about a gift can be when it boosts our creativity and make us try something, we otherwise wouldn’t do. Now, it’s your turn to share your experiences with the gifts, that spurred you to try something new. Do you remember something like that?
