Use Your Imagination

January 25, 2017

Hot air with a strong wind, oriental palace situated in the middle of the desert, late afternoon and sun rays dazzling the dunes. I feel the lightness of my dress and soft pillows under my body while I sip fragrant mint tea. I’m little sleepy, but don’t want to miss the moment before the sun goes down. Desert looks astonishing at this hour.  The red-haired cat is hanging around me, then finally she curls up to my feet. I stroke her and she purrs loudly. Little later, the delicate aroma from the palace kitchen attracts her. I stay alone, watching the last rays, passing through large decorative windows, creating impressive patterns on the floor and walls.

Between the fantasy and the reality

I saw it all in my mind, in a moment when I noticed a beautiful light coming through jalousies in our apartment, in Central Europe. In a second, the snow outside and the temperature below zero was forgotten. One ray of light brought a whole range of associations.

If there is one thing I appreciate about myself, it’s my imagination. I’m pretty sure nothing else helped me accomplish many of my dreams. What self-help books wisely call visualization is exactly something I had been doing naturally before I could read. I guess all the daydreamers did so. Visualization is not only enjoyable, it has also saved me many times in the situations, when I was not exactly where I wished to be.

I had spent most of the time at school with my mind somewhere far away, bored by the fossil education. I was traveling around the world and seeing myself mostly as a journalist, photographer or in a similar creative occupation, instead.

Of course, as my mind was always traveling, I had no idea what to do and say, when teachers asked me to answer their questions. What was happening around simply wasn’t interesting enough for me, to pay attention.

However, it doesn’t matter how crazy my dreams and goals seemed to the others, those scenes in my mind were more than clear. At a certain point, they seemed to be so real to me, that I started to believe it’s my fate, waiting for me. It has been pushing me to move towards my visions even in the most difficult times.

I believe vision is the only power, that can make us doing all those not-so-common decisions, resist the discouraging circumstances, stay active, no matter what.  Without vision, we can hardly have the so much needed faith, when we decide to sacrifice what we already have, for something that seems unlikely to happen any time soon, if ever.

Without using our imagination, it’s impossible to get motivated to work hard, take a risk and experiment. We may work hard enough to make our boss or our parents happy or to raise our income, but, certainly not enough to live our dream. That works in all the areas of our life, including career, love life or passions.

IMAGINATON + FAITH drives ACTIVITY =  LIVING  YOUR  DREAM

Sometimes my visions are quite exact, but mostly they are sketchy. I see myself here and there, doing this or that. Many places, people and activities I had imagined, I already have visited, met or experienced. Including a perfect gentleman with an adventurous spirit and sense of humour by my side.

Naturally, it’s not like I only imagine something, and it knocks on my door the following day. There are so many uncertain ideas, doubts, even desperations on the way, but despite of them, I always believe my vision and continue in my path. At the end, who I’m to imagine something, that would not be possible?

So even though I even now (and most probably for the rest of my life) face countless doubts about most of what I do, I keep unwaveringly trusting my imagination, a.k.a. visions. And if nothing else, using our imagination is also the only way of travelling that doesn’t cost a thing.

Imagination Boosters

These days it’s easier than ever, to imagine things we have never experienced yet. There are so many tools stimulating our imagination around us! We have not only books like our ancestors. We have Pinterest, which is my favorite tool to materialize my ideas. We have also Instagram giving us the chance, to see fragments of lives of the people all around the world, in different occupations. We have Youtube and all sorts of applications with sounds of everything from windy desert to the busy New York City.

For me, the sound of moped on the street is all I need for feeling like I was just crossing the street in Rome. But if your imagination doesn’t work that way, don’t hesitate using all the mentioned tools to stimulate it and reserve your time for daydreaming regularly. At the end, our inner world is the only place where no one can ever take us. So, it deserves to be taken care.

Oh my God!! Reading this article it was like reading my mind!!! So glad to see that are people out there exactly like me! The same beliefs, the same thoughts! When I was little I used to look at artists, singers, actors and thinking: “they are so talented! I admire them so much, I would love to have a talent too.” And when I grown up I realized that my talent is my very rich imagination.

Wow Daniela, I don’t know where to start. Should I start with all the beautiful images or what you wrote? Imagination, dreams and faith, somehow they are all connected. Hope you will keep sharing your journey with the rest of us. You seem to have this ability to keep us informed and transported though the power of word and pictures. Your observations are very relevant and beautiful.
